Why does my older dog growl at new puppy during sleep? Is it normal?

Hello, I recently got a new puppy a few months ago and my 2 years old dog seemed to be getting along with her just fine. I noticed they get along perfectly fine and play together during the day but when it's time to sleep or nap, he growls very aggressively towards her if she gets too close or touches him. Is this normal? How can I prevent this behavior?

Yes, this sounds normal. Some dogs do not like to be bothered when they are sleeping and just need time away from other pets (or even other people!). I would recommend that you allow your older dog to have a space away from the puppy for sleeping - you may also try crate training both of them to keep them safe when you are away. Growling is a way for dogs to communicate, and hopefully the puppy will start to understand soon!
