Why does my cat have a white hair patch and a bald spot? Is it normal?

Hi, My cat Harold seems to have a very tiny spot on his upper back of white hair. This is the first time I have noticed it. When I spread the hair apart and look at the skin, it is much whiter than usual and appears to have a little baldness. So, he has a patch of white hair growing around a small white bald spot. Any idea of what this could be? Is it just normal cat aging? He is 1.5 years old. Otherwise, he seems to be fine. Thanks. We can sometimes see color changes in haircoat in animals as they age, or as a result of inflammation or trauma to the skin. If there are no lesions (redness, crusts or scabs, raised bumps, etc.) and your kitty is not bothering at the area by licking/scratching at it, I would just continue to observe the site. I would check it weekly for changes. If he begins to lose hair, starts licking/scratching, the skin looks red or irritated or other spots appear, then a vet exam is recommended.
