Why does my 9-month-old puppy have bloody, mucus-filled runny stool?

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Small (up to 22lb) | Male | unneutered | 4 lbs

I have a male 9 month Pit/Sharpe that his stool is milcus runny with red looking liquid that started today. He eats still and active. I have no pictures of his stool

I'm sorry that Spike is having digestive issues. In a puppy I worry about GI parasites causing this and if Spike is not fully vaccinated I would also be worried about parvovirus. Parvovirus is very serious and requires extensive medical treatment. GI Parasites can usually be treated easily but you will need to bring Spike to see a veterinarian so that he or she can check a stool sample. You can try to offer Spike a bland diet of boiled chicken and rice or sweet potato to see if this will help calm his stomach until you can get him to your veterinarian. However I would encourage you to not wait too long as puppies can get dehydrated quickly. The blood and mucous also is concerning and a reason that Spike should be assessed soon. I hope he is feeling better quickly!
