Can laser therapy treat my dog's deep paw pad cut instead of surgery?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Akita | Male | unneutered | 15 lbs

Hi my pup has a deep cut in his paw pad, a chunk is almost hanging off. Our vet has rushed us into putting him under GA tomorrow to stitch it, which might not work. Can this type of injury be lasered?

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Yes, those types of injuries are very difficult to heal. The blood supply to the pads is not good and typically the sutures don't hold. If you are talking about laser therapy to promote healing, that is an option. Basically you are waiting for the pad to heal itself and using laser therapy to speed the process. I would discuss that option with your vet. You could do the surgery and laser therapy after surgery, too. I hope this helps! Good luck and kisses to Xi!
