My African Grey laid an egg, is quiet & not eating. What to do?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Bird | Unknown - Bird | Female | unspayed | 2 lbs

My African Grey just laid an egg last night. We thought it was male. It's 17 yrs old. This morning we found the egg broken. Should we be worried. She's very quiet and not eating much.

Monitor Costco for eating and drinking and activity. You will need to try to remove any mating or nesting stimulus to discourage further egg laying. Make sure she is eating a quality pelleted food and has calcium available. If she seems depressed or not eating get her to an avian vet to make sure that she is not egg bound.
