Can I still give my dog old Torbutrol for her tracheal collapse?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Yorkshire Terrier | Female | spayed | 9 years and 9 months old | 3.6 lbs

Bella diagnosed with moderate tracheal collapse a few years ago, rarely coughs. Was prescribed torbutrol as needed. What is shelf life of this medication? Was given the pills May of 2015. Would they still be good?

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! It all depends on the expiration of the main bottle at your Vet. Currently our torb tabs have an expiration of 2019 which is only 1.5 years from now. It is very likely that are expired. Sometimes there is an expiration date on the prescription label on the container. If not I'd call for a refill. I hope this helps!
