My white puppy has stubborn tear stains. How do I remove them?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Female | spayed | 7 months and 4 days old | 7.2 lbs

How do I clean my puppy's tear stains? She's white so her stains are prominent. & when her hair grows out it tends to get matted. I'm trying to keep them clean but they're so stubborn. I've tried warm water. We've even bought these wipes specialized for it & they don't seem to work. She's not very calm so it's a bit of a struggle keeping her relaxed for too long while I'm close to her eyes which is why I need something more effective.

I know that this can be frustrating. There are a few things you can try. There is a product called Angels' Eyes that comes in an oral form. It does have to be given on a consistent basis in order to see a difference. You can also use a contact solution with boric acid to reduce the staining. Do not use boric acid in any other form around the eyes as it can cause irritation or damage to the eyes. The other thing would be to have a groomer shave the hair from that area. This will keep her face cleaner and with less hair, there will be less staining.
