My dog's lump popped, clear liquid. Is Baytril enough for infection?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Basset Hound | Female | spayed | 2 years and 6 months old | 55 lbs

I noticed a lump on my dog and when I barely palpated it it popped (appeared to be sebaceous material, have seen as I am a med Tech in dermatologist office). Now when I checked it, it's barely pink but clear liquid when squeezed again. She's on baytril for UTI now. This should prevent a skin infection, correct?

Hi there and thank you for using pet coach to address your concern. Baytril should be fine to cover any potential secondary skin infection. However, it does not sound like it is infected. Many times after a cyst ruptures or all of its contents have been expressed, a clear fluid can sometimes be present. This is nothing to worry about. I would monitor the mass for now and if you notice any other changes I would get your vet to take a look at it. This may need to be removed if it gets bigger or infected. Please let me know if you have any other questions or concerns. I am also available via consultation if needed.
