My dog is shaking, falling, and acting strange. Is it a seizure or stroke?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Small (up to 22lb) | Female | unspayed

My dog Bella shakes uncontrollably and can't move properly, she falls over, keeps one paw off the ground, and has her tail between her legs. It used to be pretty rare but now it's happening more frequently. It lasts about one to two minutes, and we feed her bread which seems to calm her down. We haven't taken her to the vet, because whatever is wrong with her we can't afford to fix. My mother says it's a seizure, and I suspect it's a stroke, neither of us know what it is or how to handle it.

I am sorry Bella is having this issue. I agree it sounds like seizure or stroke activity. There is nothing you can do to treat either of those at home, unfortunately. She needs to see a vet to get a diagnosis and then prescribed the appropriate treatment or she will not get better. You have stated that you can't afford to fix what may be wrong with her but that may not be the case. You can't just assume it will be expensive and do nothing. If she is having seizure activity medication to treat that is not expensive. Have you tried this clinic? I do know them but they offer "affordable" care. You may want to contact them to see what you can do. If they can't help maybe they can direct you to a clinic that can. http://westlanepet.com/ Hope this helps. Best wishes to you and Bella.
