Hello, and thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. According to the manufacturers website, there are no untoward side effects to using the collar. The collar contains a pheromone which is a naturally occurring compound found in the milk of female dogs. The only issues that may arise is from the mechanical irritation of the collar, so it is not recommended for dogs with skin irritations or problems.
