Can my cat catch strep throat from me without showing any symptoms?

Is it possible for a human with strep throat to infect a cat and the cat not show any symptoms? Also, if the cat has it does it have to be treated like a human?

It is possible, but extremely rare that strep is passed from humans to cats. A cat that is very old, very young or immune compromised is more susceptible than a healthy adult cat. Antibiotics would be used in treatment after diagnosis by a veterinarian.

If a human has a strep throat would it be contagious to dogs ?
Not commonly no. There is only one strain of strep that is contagious to dogs and it has only been recorded to happen on rare occurrences. Therefore I wouldn't be as concerned about transfer to your pet. Now with that in mind, I wouldn't go allowing your pet to lick all over your face and eat your used tissues in the wastebasket either. Be cautious but not overly concerned about transfer. I hope Luna is able to remain healthy and I hope that you feel better soon.

i have impetigo. is it possible that my cat will get it from me ?
It is not impossible but it is very very unlikely. Usually impetigo is caused by a bacterial infection (staphilococcus and streptococcus pyogenes) so theoretically the infection can be transmitted, but, as far as my knowledge goes, there are no reported cases of this kind.

Can humans catch stomatitis from a cat?
No they cannot. Feline stomatitis is often an autoimmune disease of the eosinophilic complex, not contagious, Stomatitis can also be caused by bacteria, usually different from bacteria that can affect humans, and it can be non-bacterial caused by e.g. kidney disease. Stomatitis can also be caused by overreaction to dental plaque around a cat's teeth, triggering inflammation in the tissues of the mouth. There is also viral stomatitis, and the viruses that cause this are species specific and will not infect humans.

Can I give a cat people antibiotics
My short answer is no. Cats are very small compared to humans and the dosing is completely different. This is not a safe approach. Plus, antibiotics should never be given without a prescription by a veterinarian, as inappropriate use can lead to bacterial resistance, which can cause more serious problems. Been on and off with strep virus and they ran some labs which came back positive for pasteruella. Doctor told me it was very likely that I got it from a pet. If my cat does have pasteurella and I got it from him, does this mean I need to take him to
Pasteurella is often an opportunist bacteria, which means that it's usually hanging around on the body somewhere and will grow and cause disease when the environment is right. It's not a bug that tends to be very infectious from one animal to another. It's interesting that your doctor is suspicious that your cat for the infection...this is not a disease that we vets are usually concerned about people getting from animals. If your cat is otherwise seeming in normal health, then there would be no indication for treatment. If he does have some condition, then it would be good to take him to the vet and explain what your doctor told you. I hope that helps and you feel better soon.

I am sick with either a viral or bacterial chest infection and have been ill in bed for three weeks. My indoor cat has barely left my side and although seems healthy and happy in every other way today there have been a few explosive sneezes from him
It is very unlikely that your nurse kitty Prof. Hopkins was infected by you. Sneezing can be caused by dry air, dust or a viral infection/bacterial infection. I suggest you watch your kitty for a purulent (yellow or green) nasal discharge. If there is a purulent discharge, then your cat does have a bacterial upper respiratory infection and he will need antibiotics from your vet. I hope you feel better soon (and I hope you were seen by your GP, as there is a very nasty flu epidemic in the UK)

I have been sick recently with a cough, and I just accidentally coughed on my cat's face. This was like ten minutes ago, and his eyes are watery. Could my cat possibly get sick in the lungs area because of me???
I can't think of any respiratory diseases that would readily pass from you to your cat. It would be more likely that Toews has a feline upper respiratory infection caused by something like the feline herpesvirus or calicivirus if his eyes are red and watery. An allergy would also be possible. If Toews's eyes seem very red, if he is squinting, or if the discharge gets worse I would recommend having him examined by your vet.

A cat has shown up at my door, seemingly hungry. She sneezed and quite a bit of secretions came from her nose. she then shook her head and seemed to have quite a bit of trouble keeping her balance. She ate a bit of food, going back to it several time
Hi, thanks for using Boop by Petco. Some illnesses can be transmitted from one cat to another from your hands or clothing. I recommend washing hands and possibly leaving shoes away from your cats if the stray sneezed on or near them. Basic good hygiene will help prevent disease transmission to your kitties. If you are able please take the stray into the vet as soon as you are able as it sounds like she may have a significant respiratory infection. Be sure that she is tested for feline leukemia and FIV before you ever let her near your cats to be safe.

Your male cat would probably not get any diseases that need to be treated by antibiotics from touching her. The main conditions that can spread between cats are worms, coccidia, Giardia, herpes, fleas, feline leukemia and feline immunodeficiency virus. If possible, I do recommend to have her dewormed, apply a flea prevention and checked for feline leukemia and feline immunodeficiency virus if you are going to let the cats interact. Monitor your male cat very closely for any changes in behavior, coughing, sneezing, runny eyes or nose, vomiting or diarrhea. I hope this helps and please feel free to post any additional questions.
