Is it safe to give dewormer for hookworms with puppy pneumonia meds?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Boston Terrier | Female | unspayed | 1 month and 20 days old | 3 lbs

I took my almost 7 week old puppy to the vet after she was having diarrhea, nasal discharge, and a thick foamy spit. They told me she has pneumonia and i decided to do the at home treatment where they gave me antibiotics for her, she also is having symptoms of hookworms (the previous owner confirmed it after informing her that she is sick). Do you think I should give her the worm medicine with the pneumonia antibiotics? And how long do you think the recovery time is in this situation?

You can give a dewormer even though Lucy is antibiotics. If the worm burden is high enough, it can complicate her condition or delay recovery. Her recovery will depend on how sick she is right now. A mild pneumonia will resolve quicker than a severe infection. Keep her warm, stress free, hydrated and make sure she continues to eat.
