Shar Pei puppy eye tucking: Is 8 weeks too young or will it need re-done?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Hi there, I am going to get a Shar Pei puppy in 2 weeks once he's 8 weeks old. The breeder took him to the vet today as his eyes were closing and seemed sore on Sunday when I first went to see him. His vet has said his eyes are healthy but will need tucked - is this something which is okay at his age of 7-8 weeks, or will it need re done really quickly if he is still growing? How often do Shar Pei's generally need to get their eyes tucked? He is quite wrinkled

Entropion is very common in Sharpei dogs. If it is causing a problem it does need surgical correction, and many times it will need to be repeated as a puppy grows. However if the eyelid is rubbing the eye there's the potential for corneal ulcer ration or damage said the surgery should not be delayed in these cases. Shar-Peis can often have multiple health concerns throughout their lifetime regarding their eyes, ears, skin. Here are a couple of articles about entropion surgery as well as common characteristics of Shar-Peis. https://vcahospitals.com/know-your-pet/dog-breeds/chinese-shar-pei https://vcahospitals.com/know-your-pet/eyelid-entropion-in-dogs http://www.akc.org/dog-breeds/chinese-shar-pei/care/ http://www.cspca.com/health/health.asp Good luck with your puppy and thank you for using PetCoach.
