Can I give my dog hydrocodone or Tylenol for pain relief?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Chihuahua | Female | spayed | 18 years and 6 months old | 5 lbs

How many mg of hydrocodone can my dog take ? I have pure hydrocodone and I also have norco which is hydrocode with Tylenol or do you suggest another medication for pain so I was just wondering how many milligrams of hydrocodone is safe for her weight and age she is around 5-6 pounds. Also wanted some advice on how I could keep her comfortable ?

You should not give your dog hydrocodone unless it was prescribed by your vet, it is a very strong and dangerous medication and it can only be given under very specific circumstances. Tylenol should never be given to a dog. in most cases for severe pain your vet will prescribe a combination of Rymadil or Metacam with Tramadol, these are all prescription meds as well which you can only get through your vet.
