Can my dog be allergic to our new dog? He's never had allergies.

Pet's info: Dog | German Shepherd | Male | neutered | 1 year and 10 months old | 85 lbs

Can a dog be allergic to another dog? He's never had an allergic reaction to anything before and we haven't changed anything except got a new dog as a playmate. We are at a loss of what he could possibly be allergic to.

Hello and thank you for your question on Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! My this is certainly an interesting question! While I'm sure it is possible for a dog to be allergic to another dog (perhaps saliva or dander), I think perhaps the more likely scenario is Grizzly may have developed an allergy to something over time. Dogs, like humans, can develop allergies to a variety of substances- food, environmental allergens (like pollen, mold, dust) and many others. Often times, allergies to become apparent as the dog ages and can get worse over time. You may want to take Grizzly into your local veterinarian to have a few allergy tests run to determine what it is he is allergic to. That way, you will know for sure. I hope this has helped and I hope you are able to get to the bottom of the allergy!
