My dog has red eyes and yellow discharge after beach. Sand irritation or conjunctivitis?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Male | neutered | 48 lbs

My dog has red eyes and is showing a yellow puss, we were at the beach this weekend and he had his head in the sand is it possible to be conjunctivitis or is this just irritation from the sand? He doesn't seem stressed about it and no signs of itchiness.

This could be mild irritation or conjunctivitis. You can try to flush out with some eye irrigating solution but if it is not improving then I would have your vet look at him as he will likely needs some antibiotic eye drops. I hope this helps.

It could be some sand that got into the eye or an eye infection, you should keep an eye on it until tomorrow, if it is not better by then you will need to take Benji to the vet in order to get it treated, he might need prescription eye drops.
