My dog has a sudden crusty bump on her nose. When should I see a vet?

Our dog has a crusty looking large bump on her nose. Neither of us noticed it until this morning-I can't believe we could have overlooked it yesterday.

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Bailey! If that just showed up in 24 hours I would be a bit concerned. It could be from rubbing it on something or an insect sting. Other concerns are for something malignant, like Mast Cell tumor. I would have her seen tomorrow at your Vet. You can apply triple antibiotic cream twice daily until then. I would caution you to avoid cleaning it in case it causes it to bleed. I wish you the best!

    Hi. Yes, unfortunately it is hard to give advice without a photo or exam. With her being older, and the crust being on her nose, it could potentially be concerning. I would recommend calling your veterinarian tomorrow and scheduling an exam to get it looked at.

Hello, thank you for your question about Bailey. Based oh the photo that you have provided I suspect that those bumps are hives and signs that Bailey is having an allergic reaction. If the reaction is mild and these are the only signs that you are seeing you could try giving her Benadryl at home to control the reaction. If she is showing any other symptoms such as vomiting, diarrhea, or progressive facial swelling I would recommend having her evaluated by a veterinarian. Hope this helps, good luck!

Thanks for using Boop by Petco! This is not normal and does warrant veterinary evaluation. This could be a benign or malignant growth. This is often differentiated by a test called a fine needle aspirate (FNA) which is a pain free, inexpensive and easy procedure which in most cases will help reach a diagnosis. Sometimes a biopsy is needed for a definitive diagnosis. I recommend that you have her evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. I am really hoping for something benign. Hi just wondering if you can help please. My dog(red cattle 7yr female) has developed a crusty risen lump on the top of her nose. I noticed it last week but thought it was dirt. I know it's difficult to know without seeing it. Should I be concerned.

What is the sore / blister on the side of his nose?
Thank you for using Boop by Petco and I am sorry that Herb has this bump near his nose. From the picture you have sent the "bump" appears to be a skin growth, though it may also be an insect bite. There are several types off masses that can grow in the skin of dogs such as cysts and lipomas. Some are benign and some are malignant, so careful observation is important, as well as having a vet examine it if you are concerned. Since you only just noticed the bump, I would continue to monitor it for growth, ulceration, changes in texture or color. Measure the mass with a ruler so you can compare its growth in a couple weeks time. Rapidly growing masses are more concerning. In the meantime you can try a cool compress a few times a day, in case the bump is associated wth an insect bite or an infection/ inflammation of the skin. If after two weeks the bump is still present and especially if it has grown, I would advise a trip to the veterinarian for analysis. The vet will Most likely yse a

My Great Pyrneese is developing something on her nose. What is best to treat it with?
Hi, thanks for using Boop by Petco! There are many reason for why Bailey's nose may be changing and thickening. Some possibilities are hyperkaratosis, an immune condition or even an infection. Treatment of all of these things are different. Some over the counter options are Snout smoother for hyperkaratosis or vitamin E or an a and D ointment or a mild immune issue. If her nose worsens or doesn't improve she should be seen by your vet. I wish Bailey the best!

My dog has a brownish green lump on her nose I’m not sure what it is and I just saw it today
It's a bit hard to see the lump, but it looks like it's around Bailey's whisker. It could be from an infection of the hair follicle or it could be due to an injury. I would take her into a vet tomorrow. The vet can diagnose what is causing it, and can treat it. Best of luck.

Hi there. I'm so sorry to hear about Echo's troubles. In some cases, a lesion like that on the nose can just be from coming in contact with an irritant that could've just bothered the skin there. The irritant could've caused Echo to rub her nose on a surface and cause that lesion to appear. A staph infection can also develop around the area. Other things I look into if the lesion doesn't go away, starts to spread, or gets worse, are autoimmune diseases of the skin. I would advise just spot cleaning the area with some mild soap and water, like dial gold hand soap twice per day for a few days or some vetericyn wound spray. Creams or lotions will likely just be licked off, so I'd avoid using those. If it's not getting better in 3-5 days, I'd have Echo examined by her veterinarian to insure she doesn't need any diagonstic skin tests, or prescription medications to help the lesion resolve. My 11 month old puppy was at daycare about 6 weeks ago and she came back with a bald spot on her nose. Now a hard nodule has formed on that spot. It doesn't seem to bother her and she's acting the same. Should I take her to the vet?
Hi there and thank you for using Boop by Petco to address your concern. I would not suspect this to be a cancerous mass. This could be a cyst from an impacted hair follicle from when she was rubbing her nose in daycare. I would monitor this for the next 2-3 weeks and if it does not resolve, I would have a veterinarian examine it so that the most appropriate diagnostic and treatment recommendations can be made. Certainly if it worsens during the next 2-3 weeks I would have this seen sooner. I hope this helps! My dog randomly developed a hard bump right on her snout. It was not there a few hours ago. She doesn't seem to be in pain, and she is not scratching at it or anything. She recently had fleas if that matters. She just turned 1 year old a few days ago
Hi, thanks for using Boop by Petco! A lot of skin bumps and lumps can look the same. She could have hit her nose on something and the bump is related to trauma and will go away, it could be a benign growth (like a histiocytoma), it could be part of a skin infection or immune reaction, hives or a cancerous growth. If the bump doesn't resolve in a few days I recommend having your Vet look at it. The sores around her mouth can also be due to infection or an immune condition and may or may not be related to the new bump on her nose. I hope this helps and I wish Luna a speedy recovery!

Hi, so I'm really concerned with my brothers dog, about a week ago he had a very sore looking spot next to his nose, and now its grown quite a bit
Thanks for using Boop by Petco! This could be a benign or malignant growth. There is no way of knowing for sure without an examination though this represents a reason to seek veterinary care. This is usually determined with an examination and a fine needle aspirate (FNA) or a biopsy. Treatment depends on the findings up to that point.
