My kitten is weak and not playing after a new cat died. Is he sick?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | American Shorthair | Male | unneutered | 7.5 lbs

I recently brought a very skinny cat into my home to save him. He died after three days here. My kitten (4monyhs) is now acting strange. I think he may be sick. He isn't playing anymore and is just laying around sleeping and being very weak. . I'm worried!!!!

Hello sorry to hear about Bentley. There's definitely infectious diseases that can be transmitted to your kitten. However, young kittens themselves can carry their own diseases that could make them feel lethargic. One important disease to rule out in your kitten would be FIP. Other diseases such as FIV and FeLV should also be ruled out. The best way to assess Bentley for these is by having your veterinarian examine him. If he is not doing well, if he isn't drinking, urinating, or if he is having vomiting or diarrhea then he should be seen by a veterinarian sooner rather then later. Hope this helps!!
