My dog has bloody diarrhea and chewed a cord. Should I worry?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Border Collie | Male | neutered | 1 year and 3 months old | 50 lbs

Loki has a tiny bit of fresh looking blood on the hairs around his anus. He's not out of his ordinary self or anything he's just a tad more cuddly at the moment. He has had a case of the runs for a few days now and I've only just noticed the blood today. He has also chewed up an Internet cord on Saturday night (he did it because I was away and he wanted me to be with him and not my mother) haha He looks a bit irritated by his bum at the moment but that's all.

If Loki is having diarrhea with some blood in it, I would recommend a veterinary visit. Depending on the amount of court he swallowed he could develop a G.I. obstruction or perforation. But diarrhea with blood in it can be an indication of parasites, severe G.I. disease, pancreatitis, or viral infection. I would recommend a veterinary visit to assess why he has the diarrhea so it can be treated appropriately. I hope Loki is better soon thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach.
