My dog has terminal histiocytic sarcoma. Prognosis & comfort?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Large (61lb +) | Male | neutered | 8 years and 6 months old | 83 lbs

Hello. My dog (German Shepard and black lab) was diagnosed on Friday with histiocytic sarcoma. I was wondering if there's anything we can be doing. We were told he is terminal and that chemotherapy treatment would not be guaranteed. Is there anything we can do to increase his appetite and make him comfortable? What is the actual prognosis for such an affliction? Is there a chance he will be OK

I am sorry to hear about Jesse diagnosis. Unfortunately it is hard to guide you because I don't know all the information. For example where is the cancer currently? Has it spread,? How is the blood work. Sometimes if cancers are in an organ you can remove the mass and give a loner life. However if the cancer has already spread through out the body than there is no point to remove the mass. Also if it has spread the prognosis Is worse. I would get more information from your vet to help determine if any medications will help.
