My dog won't eat new dry food after switching from wet. Help!

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Male | neutered | 8 years and 9 months old | 9.6 lbs

My dog was switched from wet to dry food by his vet. First couple of days he loved it. Cleaned out his bowl and wanted more. Last night and today he didnt touch his food at all. I even tried hand feeding him. I know he is not sick or anything because he is his normal self otherwise and he goes by his cookie jar and barks for bones etc.... Any suggestions what i can do to get him to eat? I would hate for him to go to bed in an empty stomach. It upsets me that he is not eating.

Hi there! Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! There are a few things you can do to make his food more palatable while he gets used to it. For example, you may add low sodium chicken broth, veterinary approved gravy which you can get at your pet store or pieces of boiled chicken to it. Good luck!
