My puppy's eye looks very pink. Is it normal skin or an infection?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | American Pit Bull Terrier | Male | unneutered | 1 month and 19 days old | 4 lbs

I wanted to know if there was anything with my puppy's eye. I feel as though it's very pink, not sure if that's his skin or an infection?

Thank you for providing an excellent picture, everything looks normal from what I can see. And what an adorable pup Krypto is! What to watch for would be swelling, discharge or redness of the whites of the eye. If this happens. If you do notice this, Start by placing an e-collar or cone on Krypto to prevent scratching or rubbing. If the eye is infected it is likely painful, this will prompt Krypto to scratch or rub hia eye. However, this could inflict further damage, infection or even an ulceration. Because eye concerns with dogs, such as infections, corneal ulcerations, cataracts and glaucoma, can progress rapidly I would have him examined by your veterinarian diagnose the issue. If you notice any of the above clinical signs I mentioned. The precise medication can then be dispensed by your veterinarian. Please do not attempt to treat an eye infection at home with any over the counter medications, drops or ointments. This can lead to permanent damage and unnecessary pain or discomfort. Everything looks wonderful now though so I wouldn't worry. Warmest regards to you both!

Krypto is adorable! I don't see anything abnormal. I suspect that the skin around his left eye looks so pink because of the white fur around it (compared with the brown fur around his right eye). In the first picture, his eye is open, and I don't see any discharge or redness in the eye itself. Things that I would look for would be squinting his eye, rubbing his eye, discharge from the eye, any crusting of the skin around the eye or any hair loss around the eye. Everything looks normal in the pictures you sent, so I suspect that's just Krypto's skin color around that eye. Congrats on your new baby! I hope that was helpful!
