How to know if my dog is a purebred Lab or a Golden Retriever mix?

Pet's info: Dog | Labrador Retriever | Male | 9.503 lbs

Im a bit confused with my pet simba.......that is he pure lab or a cross with golden retriever. Breeder said its lab but if u people confirm me that its a particular breed or crossed....i will live in peace. I got doubt because my nearest frnd said it may be a cross breed . :(

Simba looks like a lab, put it is not possible to guarantee he is a pure breed just by it's look. the only way to have it confirmed is a DNA test. many companies offer this service and the process is easy and quite cheap. these are just two examples: http://dnamydog.com/ http://www.animalsdna.com/www.animalsdna.com/index.html

    IT doesn't look like a pure Husky, if i had to guess it is probably a mixed breed, possibly with a Husky and something else. The only way to know if it is a pure breed is to have a DNA test done. many companies offer this service and the process is easy and quite cheap. this is just one example: http://dnamydog.com/

Unfortunately we cannot tell if a pet is 100% anything without a DNA test. Also a pet this young is impossible to tell what breed it is. I would recommend having the pet grow up a bit and then have him tested when he is about 4-6 months of age. You can go to any vet of your choosing, although it may require you to drive a bit to get to if there isn't one that isn't affiliated with the breeder in your area. It sounds a bit ridiculous that your vet isn't willing to do a simple DNA test though, so I would look into getting another vet if this is the case. You need an unbiased opinion here and someone willing to do tests that you are requesting. I hope that you get things sorted out, and hopefully you have gotten what you have paid for. There is never a guarantee unless the puppy came with pedigree papers for the registration. But based in the picture I would say it is a lab as it has the qualities. They do make DNA test you can order online to have it evaluated if you are interested in that

Cute pup! This dog looks like a German Shepherd mix to me, possibly German Shepherd labrador retriever. There is no way to know for certain what breed a dog is (or what mixture) just by looking. However, there are genetic tests available, such as the Wisdom panel, that can be done to get more definitive information on their breed. http://www.wisdompanel.com/ Hope this helps!

Thank you for submitting your question regarding Kia. There are at home DNA test kits, such as Wisdom Panel, available for dogs now. You take a cheek swab and then mail the sample into the company. They will provide you with your dog's breed composition as well as information about the breed (or breeds) such as for predispositions certain diseases. I hope this information helps!

Hi there! Great question. It will be hard to make a distinction until Simba is finished growing, but he looks to me like what we would call an American lab. American labs are taller with a longer muzzle and narrower head, while English labs are shorter, with a bigger, block like head shape (similar to Newfoundlands). These distinctions are merely a result of breeding and are not recognized as distinctions by groups such as the American Kennel Club (AKC) who set breed standards. Hopefully this answers your question. One thing is for sure, Simba is absolutely adorable!
