My Burmese python has a head sore. Is it a burn, or something serious?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

I have a 5-month-old, female Burmese python. I noticed this lesion appear on the top of her head a few days ago. She eats frozen-thawed mice and her enclosure has a temp gradient from 73-90 degrees with humidity at 55%. Is this something very concerning?

Hello and thank you for your post! From the picture you have provided, my primary suspicions would be a thermal burn. I would make sure that your heat sources are well-covered and that what she touches near the heat source is well protected and does not transfer heat so to cause Burns. Another possibility is that if she has recently shut it, sometimes you can get superficial temporary Legion Post shedding that typically resolves on its own. I would monitor this area for now and if it worsens or does not improve I would get her scene by her veterinarian in order to get her the most appropriate diagnosis and treatment. I hope this helps! Please feel free to contact me with any other questions or concerns that you may have. I am also available via phone or text consultation.
