Pet's info: Dog | Labrador Retriever | Male | neutered | 10 years and 8 months old | 75 lbs
I have a 10 year old lab mutt and I'm wondering if he has allergies. He was scratching at himself yesterday until he got a bath, which seems to have helped. We are in a new environment for him (Texas) and it sounds to me like he might need to clear his throat. It's not constant at all and his behavior and appetite are normal. It just kind of sounds like he might have a little phlegm in his throat. His gums are normal and he hasn't coughed. I'm just wondering if I should be concerned or not.

Yes he could have allergies since you recently moved, especially if it is hot and humid there. There are lots of bacteria, molds and inhalant allergies that can cause the symptoms you describe. Generally most dogs will adjust to the new environment over several months and not need treatment. If Duke gets worse with the itching or starts more gagging or coughing then I would bring him in for a exam. Your local veterinarian would be familiar with specific allergies and problems found in your local area. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach to help you care for Duke.
