Why is my house-trained dog peeing on her bed with fishy urine?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

I have a 4 year old bully female and here the past three days she has been using the bathroom on her bed which let me mind you we have had her for 3 years now and this has never happened . She is fully house trained and uses the bathroom outisde. Well i noticed a smell from this pee in my bedroom and on her bed such a foul/fish kind of smell and i was wondering what might that be ? and should i take her to the vet? I recently got a male back in November could this have something to do with him ?

In general any changes in urination should be evaluated by your vet. Specifically for your girl, we commonly associate a strong fish odor to the urine with certain bacterial urinary tract infections, so I would have your vet check a urine sample on her to assess for a urinary tract infection or any other abnormalities in her urine. I hope that helps. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach.
