My diabetic dog has pancreatitis, won't eat, vet closed. What to do?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Jack Russell Terrier | Female | spayed | 10 years and 8 months old | 25 lbs

My Jack Russell Terrier is diabetic. Thursday I took her to the vet for her lepto vaccine (can't remember what else vaccine was for) and I was worried about a flair up of pancreatitis, which she drew blood for. While there I told the vet about her legs shaking. Vet said we could do cortisone shots, to which I said sure. Yesterday the vet called with results, she indeed has pancreatitis. Today she is lethargic and will not eat, so has not had an insulin in 24hrs. What should I do? Vet closed.

You need to go to the out of hours urgently with her. i have to admit i do not understand the cortisone shot whatsoever, this is contraindicated in dogs with diabetes. it can be used sometimes with severe pancreatitis though. she will need several medication by injection, she must be taken to the vet.
