My dog stepped on hot coals while camping. What first aid can I do?

We are camping about 40 miles in the woods our dog ran thru hot coals until we can get to a vet what can i do i have a bunch of first aid stuff with me please help

Hi there and thank you for your post! I'm sorry to hear that rock stepped on hot coals. A triple antibiotic ointment can be applied to the affected areas. If you have first-aid bandage material, I would place a telfa pad over the affected area and lightly wrap with the bandage material up above the wrist area. I would wrap the telfa pad with a cotton roll first, then use gauze wrap around the cotton, and then elastikon bandage over that. You must take care not to wrap very tight otherwise you could cut off the circulation to the foot and cause serious swelling and damage. This is only meant to be short-term until you can get to a vet. I would not wait longer than 24 hours to get him somewhere. He needs medical attention for these Burns as they can become secondarily infected. I hope this helps! Please feel free to contact me if you have any other questions or concerns.
