My dog has a very round raised spot on the side of her nose, She has been digging in the dirt. It is weepy and angry looking. Is this a fungual infection?

This does look like a skin infection, but we cannot say whether it is bacterial or fungal. Your veterinarian may be able to tell with a quick exam and looking at the area with a special light that can diagnose ringworm fungal infections. In either case, this will be best treated with an oral medication....either antibiotic or antifungal. It is usually unrewarding to try to treat a lesion in this location topically because the dog will usually lick any cream or ointment right off. I would recommend that Neyle see her vet for a diagnosis.

Hi there and thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach to address your concern. Judging from the picture, this looks like it could be a skin infection (fungal or bacterial). I would recommend having a veterinarian examine the area so that the most appropriate diagnostic and treatment recommendations can be made. An oral antibiotic or antifungal may be needed along with topical therapy. I hope this helps guide you in the right direction. Please let me know if you have any other questions or concerns. If you are unable to get to your veterinarian right away, you can try and use Malacetic conditioning spray, which can be found online quite easily and apply twice daily until resolved. Please remember to rate this answer as helpful or not. Thank you!
