Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Large (61lb +) | Male | unneutered | 2 months and 4 days old | 75 lbs
My Lab/German/Boxer mix puppy has been with us for a few days now, and every time he licks me or another person we start to get itchy in that area. I know it's not caused by anything that he's been drinking or eating. What could the be cause of this and how do I get rid of it?

Hi and thank you for your question on Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! My this is certainly an interesting question- I don't believe I have ever been directly asked this question before, but I can offer some insights for you. In general, dogs to salivate frequently and in some breeds they can salivate more than others- Boxers included! In humans that are sensitive to dog saliva, it can cause an allergic response in these people. There are specific proteins in dog saliva that may induce an allergic reaction in sensitive people. Symptoms (like burning sensitive, itchiness, redness, etc) should appear within mins after Chase licks you or other people. It is possible you have an allergy to dog saliva and your perhaps some of your friends or family. This isn't uncommon. I would talk to your MD about the possibility of an allergy you have to Chase's saliva. A skin or blood test with your MD may help confirm this allergy. Thank you and I do hope this helps answer your question! Best wishes to you and Chase!
