My dog is sick 3 days: vomiting, diarrhea, not eating, shaking. What now?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Female | unspayed | 8 lbs

Hello! My dog has been sick for 3 days. The 1st day she vomited and had diarrhea shortly after eating. On the 2nd day I took away her food to fast her for 24hrs. She had diarrhea, or threw up any remaining food in her system from the first day into the second day. Today is the third day, she has not vomited, or had diarrhea. She has aslo lost her appetite to eat, or even drink water. She is shaking and breathing a little hard, I think she might be in pain. What is wrong and what should I do?

Hi there and thank you for using Pet Coach! I am sorry to hear that suenos is not feeling well. If she is still not improving with what you have done I would get her to the vet as soon as you can. She may have become quite dehydrated from vomiting and having diarrhea. Your vet can replenish the fluid that she has lost with IV fluids or fluids under her skin. I would also want to know why she started having the vomiting and diarrhea in the first place. I would also recommend she have blood work run to ensure nothing systemic is wrong with her. Pancreatitis can show these symptoms and can cause quite a bit of discomfort in animals that are affected by it. There are blood tests that can be performed to confirm pancreatitis and your vet can surely check for this. X-rays might not be a bad idea to rule out an obstruction in the GI tract as a possible cause as well. Especially if she is a scavenger and eats random things, I would push to have abdominal x-rays done right away. I hope this helps and that she gets better! Please do not hesitate to contact me with any other questions or concerns that you may have. I am also available via phone or text consultation if needed.
