Which Purina, Royal Canin, or Hill's cat food has lowest phosphorus for aging kidneys?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Shorthair | Male | neutered | 17 years and 8 months old | 9.5 lbs

Hello could you help me to better understand which of these 3 canned cat foods has the lesser amount of phosphorus from the percentages I was given: Purina pro plan 11+ has 0.35% phosphorus; royal canin aging 12+ has 0.125% phosphorus; hills science diet 11+ has 0.6% phosphorus. These foods were suggested in a previous question I submitted here for my elderly cat I'm just not sure which has the least amount of phosphorus for his aging kidneys. Thank you

Hi and thank you for your nutrition question! Out of the percentages you mentioned above, I see a 0.35%, a 0.125% and a 0.6% phosphorus. The least % out of all three of these would be the 0.125% and thus the least amount of phosphorus out of all the 3 different food types you mentioned.. I would be inclined then to get the Royal Canin Aging 12+ (0.125%) food. I hope this has helped. Best of luck to you and Tony!
