Maltipoo puppy with white coat & spotted nose: health concerns?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Maltese | Female | spayed | 2 months old | 11 lbs

Hello, i am looking to get a maltipoo puppy. This puppy has a white color coat with a "butterfly nose." The dogs sibilings all have very brown coats but she has a white coat. What is the cause of the white coat with the spotted pink nose? Any health concerns i should worry about? And is it suggestable to not get the puppy?

What a cute puppy! My suspicion is that the color changes are due to what is called a "merle" gene in this puppy, which can cause color dilution- or white patches on the fur and nose. In most cases it is not a concern but it has been associated with congenital deafness in some dogs. The deafness usually is apparent by a few weeks of age. You can ask the breeder for an examination by a vet to ensure that isn't an issue with this puppy before purchasing her.
