My dog whimpers jumping on couch after playing. Is she just sore?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Female | unspayed | 5 years and 6 months old | 45 lbs

My dig, hound heeled mix, started giving just a baby wimper when she jumps on the couch with us. Plays normal, going up and down the stairs to go potty normal. I felt around on her hips and legs to see if there was a tender spot but nothing seemed to bother her. She was playing with our other dog yesterday kinda hard and who is 20lb bigger. So is it possible she's just sore?

Yes, it could be that Roxie is just sore from playing too rough yesterday. If the whimpering and discomfort continue for more than two days and I would recommend taking her into the vet. The vet may recommend x-rays and they can give you some medication to help her feel better while she recovers. Your vet will also be able to check to make sure she did not do anything too serious like tear a ligament in her knee. I hope this helps. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. Best of luck.
