How to tell if my senior dog is in pain or nearing end of life?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

I am trying to figure out if it is "that time" for my 12 yr old jack russel. We took him on knowing we would be end of life home. Last few weeks he is very sleepy, unsettled at night and today has been falling asleep standing up and his back legs have been collapsing under him. He has got cataracts, and a sensitive stomach and we are aware and feeding small bite food mainly chicken based

IT can be difficult to tell if it is time or not for Titch. I try to look at quality of life at home. This includes eating, drinking, using the restroom and not being in pain. If you feel like Titch has a bad quality of life it might be time. However it is always best to take Titch to a vet for a basic exam and possible blood work. Titch might have a disease like arthritis that a vet can help provide proper pain control and Titch will feel better. Hope that helps, thanks for using pet coach
