Can I give Nexgard to my dog immediately after Advantage II for fleas?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Small (up to 22lb) | Male | neutered | 1 year and 9 months old | 11 lbs

My chihuahua mix (11 lbs) started treatment with Advantage II two or three months ago. However, we still find at least one flea on him every week. (FYI we have also treated our home for fleas). We heard that topicals aren't as effective as they used to be, and want to switch to Nexgard. He was just treated with Advantage II again yesterday. How long do I need to wait before I can give him a dose of the Nexgard that finally came in mail today? Are these two medications safe to use together?

Hello and welcome to Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. It has been noted that topicals aren't working as well and NexGuard seems to be a good product right now. It won't be an issue to use NexGuard today with the Advantage applied yesterday. It is two different drugs that won't interfere with eachother. Best of luck with Ivan.
