How do I safely introduce a new guinea pig to my current one?

Hi can my guinea pig have a new guinea pig in her cage right away or do they need to get along and like each other first

It would probably be best and more successful if you slowly introduced the two guinea pigs to each other. I would start by placing them in separate cages but writhin view of each other. Then slowly move the cages closer together over a few days until they are next to each other. Once the guinea pigs do ok being in close proximity you can put them in the same cage for a short amount of time, under your supervision. Do this multiple times a day for a week or so and once they seem comfortable you can start keeping them in the same cage. I hope this helps.     I think at least for a few days until you figure out if they get along, this setup is ok. Long term, it'd be great if both pigs had a larger area at least to play in, like a playpen or other kind of pig-proofed room in your house. Have fun!

    You can remove the divider and introduce them to each other for a few minutes. Monitor closely for signs of aggression. The next day, allow them to be together for a bit longer. Continue to allow them to be together for longer periods of time until you are sure they can get along. Confirm they are both the same sex, otherwise you may find yourself with baby guinea pigs.

Sounds like you are on the right track! I see that Sebastian is a male, and I assume that you are getting another male - I apologize if that is not correct, as that is what I will be speaking to. To introduce the boys, you can put their cages next to each other - they will have visual and auditory (hearing) contact, but no physical contact. If you don't see any signs of aggression, such as putting up their hair, chattering their teeth, or lunging at one another, then you can move towards supervised contact. I usually wait 4-5 days to do this - this will allow for your new guinea pig to get used to your house as well. During supervised contact, I will often feed the guinea pigs, as this will create positive experiences with one another. After a few days of putting the pigs together for sessions, then you can put them together. The part that worries me is that if both of your guinea pigs are intact males, that they may end up fighting in the future. I would recommend getting them castr

As long as you introduce them gradually, you should be fine. A clear divider can be used to allow them to see, hear and smell one another but not physically reach one another until they are acclimated.

You can get a young pig or one closer in age. Which ever you choose, have her examined by your veterinarian to confirm good health. Introduction should be gradual. Begin by having them in separate cages side by side. This way they can see, hear and smell one another but have no physical contact. Once they are acclimated, you can gradually introduce them for short periods of time under supervision. Clean and rearrange the cage you choose so it appears to be "neutral ground for both pigs. Rub some of the bedding from your first pig onto the new one before introduction. This scent transfer will help acclimation. Allow them to spend more and more time together while monitoring for signs of aggression. Provide extra food bowls, water bottles, etc to prevent resource protection or food aggression.

Based on the behavior you are describing I would not recommend housing these pigs together right now. The older pig is exhibiting some signs of dominance which can quickly turn to aggression. I would recommend allowing them to interact and play with each other under your supervision. If you ever notice that these behaviors stop then you can try housing them together. I hope this helps. It can be difficult anytime you introduce a new pet to the home. I would start by having the gibes pig in a room in the house where your dog cannot go. This allows your dog to get used to the smells of the guinea pig before introduction. Then start with a few minutes of a time of interaction. You hold the guinea pig while your dog is allowed to see him. All the while reminding your dog of the training word "gentle". Increase these "play dates" each week until you are confident your dog will follow the command gentle. Reward your dog with positive reinforcement each time he is gentle. This can be treats, verbal Praise and petting. Guinea pigs are prey animals by nature so they may be frightened of dogs which are predator animals. With this in mind always try to make your Guiena pig Marino feel safe, and be ready to rescue him if he becomes overly frightened.

As long as the cage is large enough and you introduce them gradually, you should be able to house 3 boars together. Be sure to provide additional bowls, toys and hides to prevent resource protection. Monitor for signs of aggression and separate them if necessary.

Thanks for your question, and congratulations on your new pet. Guinea pigs are shy by nature, and it often takes a while for them to warm up to their caretakers. This is especially true if they arealone rather than kept with a cagemate. I didn’t see how long you have had your guinea pig or if it was kept alone, but I would advise to use patience and positive reinforcement training. Whenever you approach your guinea pig’s cage, you can bring something tasty, such as greens or Oxbow treats. This will help your guinea pig to associate you with good things. Over time, it will get more and more comfortable with you and you can start to approach closer and closer. I hope that gives you a place to start, and thanks for using Boop by Petco!

Hi thanks for using Boop by Petco. It sounds like you’re doing a great job introducing Sebastian and Cosmo. I would probably give it a little more time before you cage them together 24/7. Continue introducing them in a neutral territory. Here is a bit more information on introducing GP.
