My dog's brown flea allergy spots aren't healing. When to see a vet?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Male | neutered | 5 months and 16 days old | 60 lbs

I have been treating my dog for fleas for the past month or so and the brown spots on his brown Flea Allergy spots have not been getting any better, his scratching has reduced significantly and looks as if the fleas are reducing in number, (I've given him a flea collar, topical, and flea prevention pill prescribed by my vet). I want to know if these are getting to the point where I should take him to the vet for skin treatment.

Those spots look like normal healing after a mild skin infection or irritation. I would continue to just keep an eye on it. If the spots seem to be multiplying, turn much darker, or turn red, then you may want to have Benito rechecked by your vet. They should continue to get lighter and go away over the next week or two.
