Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Large (61lb +) | Female | spayed | 3 years and 11 months old | 45 lbs
Our dog has tested positive three times for E canis. (ANTIBODY) She is not sick at all and never has been. Our problem is we trying to get her to is in Australia. As we have recently immigrated. The state vet says she can not be cleared with a postive result. She has been on antibotics for 21 days just as a precaution but yet she ia still failing the test. Is it possible that this could have been passed down from her mother. Or maybe she could be a carrier. We are devastated as we are waiting.

I'm sorry for your frustration, but there may be a solution. Most veterinarians use the Antibody test to detect Ehrlichia. Even with treatment, your dog may show a positive test for months or up to a year as the antibody is still being detected. In order to more accurately test if your dog has the disease, the newer blood test called a PCR assay can be submitted. This tests specifically for presence of the organism , not the antibodies. Please speak with your veterinarian about doing a different test as you may wait a very long time for the antibody test to be negative. I'm sure the newer test is probably more expensive, so be prepared to ask about the cost. Best of luck!
