My Doberman won't sit, whines, and hasn't pooped. Is he in pain?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Doberman Pinscher | Male | unneutered | 1 year and 4 months old | 60 lbs

My dog, a doberman pinscher 1.3 years old, is refusing to sit down. Also he is whining. He has a history of gastritis problem and he has not pooped since yesterday afternoon. Unfortunately, here in India the vets are quite not knowledgeable.

Hi and thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Sorry to hear about Danny. Sounds like he is having some pain and discomfort near the rear of his body. This could be many things including hip or joint pain, anal gland problems, problems associated with the gastritis as you described, etc. I would advise that you take Danny in to your vet and let them get a thorough history and then perform a physical exam. Possible tests that they may suggest would be a rectal exam, orthopedic exam of the rear legs, anal gland evaluation, fecal tests, blood tests, and possibly x-rays to evaluate his hips. Once a diagnosis is made, a sound treatment plan can be discussed. Good luck with Danny.
