We've weathered through the hurricane this weekend, which resulted in our pup standing in the rain while he goes to the bathroom. Yesterday, he started coughing in the morning. It's a deep cough, almost like a hacking that he does when he pulls too hard on his leash. Other than that, his activity level and demeanor has been normal. No crusty eyes, gums are pink/normal. Should we bring him to the vet?

I am so sorry that you are dealing with such a huge disaster- I hope everyone is safe! Standing in the rain for a short time while using the bathroom isn't typically enough to cause an illness, but it may not help if he was trying to fight something off. A deep hack like you are describing could be from a few different things- if he was around other dogs about a week or so ago it could be an infectious cause. Also on the list would be a structural problem like collapsing trachea, or something physically being in his throat. If he seems to feel bad- not eating well, lethargic, etc I would take him in, especially being so young! If the cough is occsional and he still seems playful and eating well you could give it some time. I hope this helps and you all stay safe!!
