My cat is vomiting everything. When should I take him to the vet?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Mediumhair | Male | neutered | 6 years and 3 months old | 10.5 lbs

My 6 yo cat has been vomiting everything he eats since Sunday afternoon. His behavior has been very normal otherwise. Still wants to eat and drink and play. He was sneezing for a few days before this. He wants to be very close to me like a child that is ill. I switched him to wet food today and he vomit 10 minutes after. Should I be concerned yet? When should I take him to the vet and for what treatment?

I am sorry that Stripes is not feeling well! Cats are very good at hiding signs that they are ill, so even though he has been acting normally, the fact that he has been vomiting a lot and that you indicate he wants to be close to you make me concerned. Vomiting is a non-specific sign of illness in cats (meaning that any sick cat can vomit and it does not point to a specific problem). When you take Stripes to the vet (and please call tomorrow for an appointment), your veterinarian will perform a complete physical exam and likely want to draw blood and sample some urine. I would recommend bringing a stool sample from home for them to look at too). Depending on what the exam reveals, your vet may also advise that x-rays should be taken. I hope Stripes feels better soon! Thank you for using Pet Coach,
