I sounds like Lucy is pretty painful. I would recommend a vet visit to assess for injuries and to get pain medication for her. Please do not give otc pain medicine as they are not metabolized well by dogs and many are toxic. I would let her rest in a confined area until you can get her in and try to limit her jumping on and off of furniture. Good luck. Thank you for using pet coach.

Hello, thank you for your question about Lucy. Shivering/shaking and yelping can be signs of discomfort/pain in dogs. There are many underlying reasons that a dog could be painful. It is possible that she is experiencing some abdominal pain secondary to GI discomfort, I would expect her to be inappetant or have some vomiting/diarrhea if this was the case. It is also possible that she is uncomfortable secondary to a muscle strain/orthopedic problem, if this was the case I would expect to see some limping or favoring of one limb. It is also possible that Lucy could be experiencing back/neck pain, a not uncommon finding in small breed dogs. If Lucy is exhibiting any of these signs in addition to the shivering/yelping I would recommend having her evaluated by your veterinarian. They can perform an examination and help localize the source of her pain; they can also discuss additional diagnostics or treatments that they feel necessary. If Lucy's signs are more mild and she is not exhibiting any other symptoms (vomiting, diarrhea, limping, etc) you could continue to monitor her for improvement for the next 18-24 hours. Hope this helps, good luck!
