My cat's eardrum ruptured. Does it heal naturally without medication?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Vet said cat had rupture in ear but he was already seeing scar tissue. He didn't prescribe him or gave him anything while we were there. Is it expected to heal on its own?

If your cat had a ruptured eardrum, healing should take between 3-5 weeks. Place an e-collar (cone) on him to prevent scratching, pawing or rubbing at the ear. He should be rechecked several times during this time frame to confirm healing is taking place.
