Cat not eating, gagging, lost voice after pest control. What's wrong?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Bombay | Male | neutered | 3 years and 9 months old

Piku has lost his voice (he tries to meow but only a small sound is produced) and appetite and is gagging very often ever since we got pest control done. It's been 46 hours since he last pooped or ate anything. He only drinks water (once a day). We rescued a kitten a week ago and Piku isn't very happy about it. But the kitten is healthy. What is Piku suffering from? Because of what? What do we do?

Your cat could be upset about the kitten but I am concerned about the length of time he has not eaten. Cats can become sick with a disease called Hepatic Lipidosis or "fatty liver" when they start using fat for energy because they do not have any food in their stomach to digest. Piku could be sick from the chemicals, sick from the new kitten even though the kitten is healthy or just be sick from something else. He should be seen by a veterinarian as soon as possible.
