What happens if my dog is too active after broken leg surgery?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Pug | Male | neutered | 1 year and 6 months old | 20 lbs

Pug w/broken leg: leg had surgery and is set with plate/screws. it's only been about 3 weeks, and we've been told "absolutely NO running, jumping, playing for 8 to 12 weeks" The lil playpen is in the living room, so he can see us and know he's not being 'abandoned', but stupid husband is too soft hearted and keeps letting him out AND takes him potty off-leash! Gah! QUESTION: what exactly will happen to the dog's leg if stupid husband keeps doing this??

As tempting as it can be to let Mochi run around I highly advise against it. The screws and plates can become dislodged requiring another surgery. The surgical site could also become infected or inflamed. Perhaps share this information with your husband as well as the potential for having to pay for the surgery again. I am so sorry and I hope your words of wisdom to him will help him comply in the future.
