My dog has hives on antibiotics, tried Benadryl. When to call vet?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Bulldog | Female | spayed | 4 years and 6 months old | 88 lbs

My dog has hives , nothing new has changed in her life , other than she's on antibiotics for skin infection.. She's had them for a few days and getting her to the vet is a pain.. How long is it too long to let her have the hives .. She's not that bothered just an occasional itch.. I've given benadryl and zyrtec..

You should call your vet and give him/her an update. If the hives started after giving the antibiotics then your vet may want to switch to a different antibiotic in case it is an allergic reaction to the antibiotics. Your vet may also want to prescribe a corticosteroid to help treat.
