Can dogs eat dry and wet food together? How do they digest it?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Dry food and fresh food have a different mechanism to diggest in a dog's stomach and a doctor told me that dogs can eat both of them at the same day how is that?

A dog's gastrointestinal tract actually works in a very similar fashion to a humans. A variety of foods can be digested in our stomachs and intestines in the same day, and it is the same with a dog. Wet food consists of anhigher water content then dry food and therefore undergoes a longer absorption period in the large intestine where water is absorbed. Other then that they are mainly digested in the same manner, and can even be eaten together in the same meal.
