My dog was attacked. Is it safe to remove his cone after 5 days?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Male | neutered | 7 months and 13 days old | 104 lbs

Pilot got attacked about 5 days ago by another dog we were told to have him wear a cone and he has been for the last 5 days and he was never given stiches and we feel like his leg has healed pretty quickly and we're not sure if his leg is in a good enough condition where he wouldn't have to wear it anymore.?

I always recommend having them wear the cone for 12-14 days. It can take this long for skin to heal by scar tissue. I would recommend at least another 5 or 6 days before removing it. Hope that helps.
