My pregnant dog has heartworms. Can I continue her herbal treatment?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | American Pit Bull Terrier | Female | unspayed | 4 years and 5 months old | 80 lbs

I believe my dog to be weeks pregnant. She has been diagnosed w heart worms back in last winter. We started giving her Artemisia Combination (k) and Black Walnut 4 months ago to fight it naturally. But now that I believe she is pregnant, I am wondering if it is still safe to continue giving her those herbs.

June bug will most likely pass heartworm disease to her puppies. Unfortunately there are no studies that show these supplements are harmful or safe for fetus. I would not recommend giving them since we are unsure about the safety. As soon as the puppies are 8 weeks they need to be started on heartworm prevention to prevent adult heartworm from forming. Thanks for using pet coach.
